I Don't Understand the Round 1 Hype on Darian Mensah
Darian Mensah, QB, Miami Hurricanes — 6'3" / 205 — RS Junior with 27 college starts.
There are things to like about Darian Mensah. He'll probably put up some big numbers at Miami with more talent around him, with some cool highlights similar to what he's shown at Tulane and Duke.
- There's definitely talent there to work with, but he lacks any high-end traits some other guys in this class are oozing with across multiple areas.
- Despite some really nice highlight-type throws, there's still inconsistency with his ball placement, especially his deep ball, paired with an average arm and average athleticism.
- Had one of the lowest weighted on-target percentages of the QBs in this class, compared to guys like Manning and Moore.
- Tends to drift in the pocket, running himself into pressure, and looks to leave the pocket a little too much.
I personally don't understand the Round 1 hype. NFL feedback was Day 3, but I could see a team taking him late on Day 2 if he had declared. He also wasn't Miami's first choice — they wanted Ty Simpson.
Currently my QB8, and a guy I'm lower on after summer scouting — but we'll see how the 2026 season plays out for Mensah.
